El abandonar las calles de Cartagena por otro país, a los cortos trece años, le permite a Jorge A. Yances apreciar la importancia de ese lugar donde nació; y marca el final de un corto periodo de tiempo en su vida que pasó absorbiendo color y paisaje. Lo que impresiona a sus ojos físicamente, deja una marca en su alma. Es así como Yances transforma la visión externa de Cartagena, visible a otros en fotografías y narraciones, en realismo mágico; en donde el artista lee la imagen detrás de la manifestación periférica de la ciudad. Los trabajos de “Memorias de Cartagena” son la visión de Yances de las dos facetas de la vida, en donde lo material es solamente el lienzo para lo espiritual. Estas obras demuestran su creatividad para transcribir y fusionar los dos niveles en los cuales el mundo existe para que otros lo vean y lo gocen.
Leaving the streets of Cartagena at thirteen for another country led Jorge A. Yances to appreciate the importance of his birthplace and it marked the ending of a short period in his life spent absorbing color and scene. His eyes’ impressions migrate into lasting impressions on his soul. Hence, Yances transforms the external vision of Cartagena, visible to others in photographs and narration into magical realism; the author reads the images behind the peripheral manifestation of the city. The works of “Cartagena Memories” are Yances’ vision of the double side of life where the material is only a canvas for the spiritual being. These paintings demonstrate his creative translation, deciphering, and fusing of the two levels of the world for others to see and enjoy.
